Windsor Park Stadium in Roseau — Dominica’s premier venue for national and international sporting events, where athletic ambition meets island pride.
At the CARIFTA Games 2025 in Port of Spain, Dominica once again confirmed its growing reputation as a nation with a flourishing sports culture and a serious commitment to developing young athletes. Under the guidance of the Dominica Amateur Athletic Association (DAAA), the national team delivered a strong performance, demonstrating technical skill, competitive spirit and promising potential for future growth.
The highlight of the tournament was the performance of Addison James, who claimed a gold medal in the under-20 javelin throw. His result — 67.48 metres — set a new national record and underscored the potential of Dominica’s athletics programme. Equally notable was Jeraiyah Lewis’s personal best in the long jump (7.06 metres), along with sprinter Karel Etienne’s impressive time of 11.76 seconds in the 100-metre semi-final. Discus thrower Godisha Joseph also performed with consistency and technique that matched international standards.
These achievements were made possible thanks to the sustained efforts of the DAAA, the national governing body for athletics since 1985. The association actively collaborates with international organisations, including World Athletics and the Dominica Olympic Committee, and organises national championships, youth festivals and training programmes for coaches and officials. It is under the DAAA’s stewardship that the framework for athlete development and selection for regional and international competitions has taken shape.
The CARIFTA Games serve as a vital platform for identifying the Caribbean’s next generation of champions. For Dominica, participation is not merely a matter of competition, but an opportunity to showcase steady progress in youth sport development. The athletes’ results affirm that the nation possesses not only talent, but discipline, drive and momentum.
Dominica is making an increasingly confident statement as a dynamic and sport-focused country. In every race and in every metre of the javelin’s flight, there is purpose, precision and energy — qualities worthy of recognition and respect on the international stage.
