Dominica Becomes Most Family Friendly CBI Programme in the World

Dominica Government announced new changes on July 09, 2020

On July 9, 2020, the Dominica Government announced new changes to increase the attractiveness of the Dominica Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme for the entire family. By expanding the concept of “qualifying dependents”, a main applicant can include all family comprising of spouse, children, siblings, parents and grandparents in one application at the time of submission, and with the option to add more family members post acquisition of citizenship.

“The changes we are announcing are exciting. They are meant to accelerate family reunification in a world where togetherness, and the right to all be able to live in a safe, stable, and welcoming environment is more important than ever,” commented Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit in the Government’s June 24th press release.

Two Changes in the Application Forms and Documents Requirements

  • Main applicants providing a sworn affidavit of support for dependants aged 18 or over included in the application must indicate whether such dependants are supported by the main applicant or the main applicant’s spouse.

  • Letters from a competent authority confirming enrolment at an institution of higher learning need no longer be notarised but instead must be signed and stamped by the competent authority. While attendance at an institution of higher learning is no longer a requirement for children aged 18-30 to qualify as dependants, those who are currently in a recognised institution of higher learning must still submit either official transcripts from that institution of higher learning or a letter from the competent authority confirming enrolment.

Due Diligence with extended rights for family members

With the expanded possibilities of including additional family members in the citizenship application, the Government of Dominica maintains high standards when examining all applicants for citizenship.

Dependents aged 16 and over must pass due diligence checks. As noted in the tables above, the original applicant must undergo the due diligence checks together with new additional family members, if submitted more than 1 year after the date of submission of the original application.

A careful selection of citizenship applicants is one of the main advantages of the Dominica Citizenship by Investment Programme, which has been operating steadily since 1993 and has gained worldwide recognition due to the continuous improvement in its efficiency and the reduction in its approval processing time.

The CBI Index published by Professional Wealth Management, a publication of the Financial Times ranked Dominica as the best Citizenship by Investment Programme for investments for three consecutive years (from 2017 to 2019). In addition, Dominica is the safest country to live and work in the Caribbean and has been recognized as the leading destination for travel in 2020.
