The Government extends deadline for Dominica’s E-passport to December 2022

The Government has extended the deadline for Dominica’s E-passport Renewal for another 4 months – until December 31, 2022. After the expiration of this date, the current old-style passport will be considered invalid: it will not be possible to use it for travel, opening bank accounts and other cases when it is required to confirm the identity of a person.

The issuance of biometric passports to Dominica citizens began on July 26, 2021. Dominica became the first country among the members of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to launch the issuance of biometric passports. When is it required to renew Dominica passport?

Passport validity:

  • 10 years for Dominica citizens over 16;
  • and 5 years for those under 16.

You should renew your passport approximately 9 months before it expires, because certain countries require passports to remain valid for 6 months after travel and some airlines will not let you board if your passport does not meet this requirement.

What happens to the old passport when you replace it with a new one?

When applying for a new Dominica passport, the old one is handed over along with the rest of the documents. The Dominica Government stamps the cancellation stamp on it and returns it back along with a new passport. This is especially important for those who have valid visas in their passport.

Is it required to visit the country to renew Dominica passport?

Persons, who received Dominica citizenship by investment, do not need to travel to the country to renew their passports: they can apply for a new passport through registered citizenship agents.

What documents are needed to renew a passport?

To apply for a new passport, the following documents are required:

  • Completed Passport Application Form;
  • Certified copy of Birth Certificate; with Certified English translation if necessary;
  • Certified copy of Naturalisation Certificate;
  • Marriage Certificate/Divorce Decree/Death Certificate of Spouse, with Certified English translation if necessary (applies to women only);
  • Original Passport to be replaced;
  • Two recent passport size colour photographs (45mm x 38mm).

How long does it take and at what cost to renew a passport?

The application process usually takes 4 to 6 weeks. If you need to get passport faster, you can request an expedited service from the Dominica Government. Its additional cost is 1200 USD, and the passport issuance takes 4 days.
